Reuben

Gig Review and Photos by Ally

Okay, admittedly I've seen Reuben once before supporting Hell Is For Heroes at the back end of 2002 and I didn't pay that much attention. However, I didn't recall thinking they totally sucked, which in my opinion is a good thing.

To be honest, I don't know how anyone could not respect a band who appear onstage with the Beetlejuice theme as their intro tape. All violet-coloured lights as well, kinda made me wish I had thought of it first. I have an even greater respect for three-piece bands that are tight. And tight they were. They seem to hold it together onstage easily and Jamie Lenman has a pretty unusual but distinctive voice. I'm not that familar with them but I recognised their singles Let's Stop Hanging Out, Stux and waited all day for the forthcoming Freddy Kreuger that caught my attention on XFM a couple of weeks ago. Sounded ace live.

It's this mix of both chunky melodic riffs and at times fast-paced heavy noiiiise that'll have me investing in the album when the time comes. I hear they've finally signed a proper deal. About time! The pre-pubescent teen audience in the Town Hall seemed to revel in it and the place was packed - all that matters.

Go Reuben.
