Jim Noir | CD review | 2005

JIM NOIR - My Patch EP (My Dad Recordings 2005)

Review by Dawn

From a press release printed on brown paper, you'd deduce that Jim Noir may be a little unusual. And as anyone who heard Noir's debut EP Eanie Meany knows, such a deduction would be correct.

Unashamedly quirky and yet marvellously melodic, all four tracks have an irresistible charm, not to mention layer upon layer of instruments, sound effects and harmonies. Jim Noir inhabits a world influenced by an intriguing hybrid of the Beach Boys and the Super Furry Animals, where evil computers reside alongside Byrds-esque choruses which suddenly - and completely randomly - give way to eerie chanting, whistling and lounge music interludes.

Jim is apparently rehearsing for a forthcoming tour. By all accounts, it promises to be an interesting one...
