ENVELOPES - Life On The Beach

Review by Dawn

If the B-52s joined forces with The Raconteurs to play at a beach party held by Brian Wilson, this is what the result might be - resounding guitar riffs, distinctive male vocals and unashamedly summery sounds which manage to be infuriatingly catchy even in the current British rain.

A taster of the band's forthcoming album, Here Comes The Wind, the single features an equally impressive B-side in the form of the similarly sunshine-filled Calypso. This tropical teaser is sung by Audrey, whose sweet voice gives the song a sound not too dissimilar from those on Charlotte Hatherley's debut album.

As if that wasn't enough, there are also ambulance sirens and lyrics sung in French proving that Envelopes make a musical mix that should surely tempt anybody to take a peek inside.
